Common Ice Maker Issues
There are so many different types of issues that can interfere with the way your ice maker works. Here are some of the more frequently seen issues:
1. The appliance isn’t making ice cubes
If you go to the freezer to grab a handful of nice, cold ice cubes and there are none where you know there should be some, the chances are you have a water supply problem. If there are some cubes but they are smaller than they normally are, or just none at all, the first thing you want to do is check the water supply lines. These lines need to be correctly connected and there should be no harm to any of them at all nor should there be anything inside the line that could restrict the water flow.
It is possible that your filter could be faulty or clogged as well when it comes to water supply issues. You should be changing out your filter no less than once every six months. If you are having a hard time trouble-shooting any of these issues yourself, please call one of our highly trained technicians so they can come and help you find the issue and get it fixed as soon as possible, especially if it’s in the summer. No one wants to go without ice in the summer.
2. The ice maker is freezing
If you go to your freezer and you see a big block of ice instead of nicely formed cubes, then chances are you have an issue with your thermostat. It could be a problem with the actual thermostat, or, it could just be that your freezer is turned down too low.
First, you will want to check the simplest of possibilities which will be the temperature settings, then refer to the appliance’s owner’s manual to make sure you have it set within the recommended limits. If the settings are ok, then it is time to call a qualified professional to come troubleshoot the issue.
3. Ice cubes don’t break free from the machine
Another frequent issue with ice makers is when the cubes won’t break from the machine. This has yet another possibly simple solution. Check the mode the freezer is in then, again, refer to your owner’s manual for the proper settings.
Many ice-making machines feature a metal arm on the outside. You can raise or lower this attachment to regulate ice production. Ice making usually stops when the arm is raised.
There is usually a metal arm on the outside of the ice maker. When the arm is raised, the ice-making process will stop. So naturally, when the arm is down is when the machine will be producing ice. If you check and the metal arm is in the proper position for the desired result and you still are having trouble, that is when it is time to call us so we can come assist you and find out exactly what is causing the machine to malfunction.
